Go-Ahead Singapore will progressively deploy 50 additional solar panel fitted buses by the end of April 2023. The fleet will also include the two buses that were previously used by the company during a six-month long trial in 2021.

Findings from this trial indicate a potential fuel saving of three to four per cent annually, amounting to around 1,400 litres of diesel per year. Ultra-thin panels were chosen instead of conventional solar panels due to their lightweight nature, with the entire installation weighing less than 20 kgs.

This move aligns with LTA’s Land Transport Master Plan (LTMP) 2040 under which diesel-fuelled buses will be replaced with greener vehicles, including diesel-electric hybrid and fully electric buses. It is also in line with Go-Ahead’s aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.
