The Government of Thailand plans to call for international bids to construct the THB1 trillion Landbridge. The winning consortium will be awarded the 50-year-long concession. The bridge will be developed in four phases between 2025 and 2040 and is expected to achieve break-even in 24 years.
Upon completion, the project will help vessels avoid the Malacca Strait, reducing travel time by an average of four days and lowering shipping costs by 15 per cent.
The government also plans to enact a new law to facilitate the project’s development and adjacent areas.
