General Electric (GE) has received an order from a consortium of Mitsubishi, Posco Engineering & Construction Company Limited (POSCO) and PEC Powercon Sdn. Bhd to provide wind turbines for the 1.2-GW Pulau Indah Power Plant in Selangor. The two-block combined cycle plant is scheduled to start commercial operations in 2024. It will feature a STF-D650 steam turbine, a W88 generator and a once-through heat recovery steam generator, and will be powered by two of GE’s 9HA.01 gas turbines.

GE has signed a 21-year services contract that covers scheduled maintenance for equipment parts, as well as major checks and repairs on the 9HA.01 gas turbines. Technical advisory services are also included in the contract. Based on International Standards Organization (ISO) terms, GE claims that the new equipment’s productivity will exceed 63 per cent. It is being constructed in accordance with Malaysia’s Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) Plan, which aims to reduce emissions.
