Yinson GreenTech (YGT) has announced plans to deploy the first fully electric cargo vessel in the Port of Singapore. The green vessel, also known as the Hydramover, will be designed by SeaTech Solutions International (SeaTech) and will use Shift Clean Energy’s PwrSwäp battery-swapping technology. This is a pay-as-you-go energy subscription service that provides clean and renewable energy (RE) to ships.
The electric cargo vessel is scheduled to be launched during Q2 of 2023 and will be commercialised by 2024. The Hydromover is18.5 meter long and can carry cargo up to 25 tonnes, including the batteries. The zero-emission ship is expected to reduce operational costs by up to 50 per cent due to improved energy efficiency. The battery swapping technology will also reduce operational downtime.
The Hydromover will be equipped with an advanced vessel management system as well as sensors to allow for future autonomous operation.
