Several new freight train routes have been launched connecting Chongqing (Guoyuan Port) and Chengdu in China to Hanoi in Vietnam. The new freight service is expected to reduce transportation time of goods to five to seven days from the current 20 days. It is also expected to boost trade opportunities with Western China.
Since the beginning of 2022, the value of goods transported by cross-border freight trains between China and Vietnam has increased three-folds. Although there are many operational freight trains between the two countries, the newly announced routes will be the first connecting Vietnam to China’s western regions.
