Construction of four bridges along Route 20 in Salavan Province has reached 49 percent overall completion as of November 2025, with an expected opening in April 2026 in Laos. The project is part of a broader initiative to build 12 bridges across Champasack and Salavan provinces, funded by loans and grants from the Government of the Netherlands. Works are being implemented from 2023 to 2026 under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and provincial authorities.

The four bridges—Houay Namsan, Houay Tapoung, Houay Pao, and Se Set—replace aging Bailey steel structures with modern reinforced-concrete bridges measuring a total of 173 meters in length and 10.70 meters in width. Upgraded approach roads and temporary bypass bridges have been constructed to maintain traffic flow during construction. Physical construction began in June 2025, with progress at individual bridges reported as 65 percent (Houay Namsan), 72 percent (Houay Tapoung), 60 percent (Houay Pao), and ongoing works at Se Set Bridge, where the temporary bypass is operational.

The project aims to improve transport efficiency, enhance road safety, and support regional economic development by better connecting local communities. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution in construction zones, particularly around temporary bypass routes and active work areas.
