The first phase of Vietnam’s Bac Lieu wind power project in the southern province is now connected to the national electricity grid. Work under Phase I involved the installation of 10 turbines with a total capacity of 16 MW. General Electric will be supplying 62 turbines with a capacity of 1.6 MW each. They will generate 320 million kWh per year. All the turbines with a total output of 99.2 MW are expected to be operational in June 2014. Bac Lieu-based Cong Ly Construction and Trading Company Limited will invest 5,142 billion dong in the project. Besides, the loan for the project has been sourced from the US Import and Export Bank. Meanwhile, Vietnam’s first wind power project was completed in Central Binh Thuan province at an estimated cost of 1,454 billion dong. Commissioned in April 2012, it has an output capacity of 90 million kWh.
