Southeast Asia’s first helicopter operating on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) has completed its maiden flight in Singapore. The flight was operated by Bell, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent by 2025.
The SAF used is a mix between cooking oil and animal fats mixed with jet fuel and was supplied by Neste. Use of SAF is expected to offset helicopters’ emissions by about 30 per cent.
This move is in line with the Government of Singapore’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions from flights. Since July 2022, Singapore Airlines and Scoot have also been operating flights in the country running on SAF as a part of a year-long trial.
