TotalEnergies Marine Fuels and Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) have completed the first biofuel bunkering exercise for a vehicle carrier in Singapore. TotalEnergies supplied the biofuel which was used to refuel a MOL-operated car and truck carrier via ship-to-ship transfer. Cargo operations were performed simultaneously.
The biofuel blend used comprises of a mix of very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) blended with second-generation, waste-based and used cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME). This blend is expected to offset about 17 per cent more carbon than conventional fuel oil.
