The Government of Malaysia has announced plans to commence a feasibility study for the proposed Trans-Borneo Railway, which will connect the states of Sabah and Sarawak with Indonesia. The study will start in August 2024 and is expected to be completed by August 2025. This railway aims to enhance connectivity with Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara, and improve logistics and transport links in East Malaysia.
The Ministry of Transport is also seeking funding for the study. The Trans-Borneo Railway was initially proposed in 2015 to improve passenger and freight transport between the countries.
