Cambodian internet provider Ezecom and Malaysia’s Telekom Malaysia will build a new submarine cable to connect the two countries. The 1,425 km cable will connect Cambodia to Malaysia and Thailand, which will then be linked to the Asia–America Gateway (AAG). The cable that will cost about $80 million is expected to become operational by end-2014. Construction work is expected to commence by October 2013. Ezecom has access to the AAG because it purchased Telcotech, AAG’s only Cambodian member, in 2011.
