The Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat) is inviting interested companies to submit their tenders for work on the Kathu-Patong expressway in Phuket. The expressway project is expected to cost nearly THB15 billion, out of which land expropriation will cost around THB5.79 billion.

Exat will commence the sale of bid envelopes starting 26 December 2022 and tenders will be accepted in March 2023. Selection process will take six months and the winning bidders will be announced by the end of 2023.

The Kathu-Patong expressway will be built under a public-private-partnership (PPP) model, with the winning bidder overseeing the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the expressway for a 35-year period. Construction work is scheduled to commence in 2024, with the expressway opening to traffic in 2027.

The nearly 4-km-long Kathu-Patong expressway will connect the Phra Mettha Road in Patong and Tambon Kathu. The expressway will have four lanes in each direction and will include a 1.85-km tunnel. Once operational, around 71,000 commuters are expected to use the expressway per day.
