ERS Energy Sdn Bhd has entered the execution phase of two utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects awarded under Malaysia’s Battery Energy Storage Programme (MyBeST), following the signing of project agreements with the designated offtaker. The projects form part of Malaysia’s first large-scale competitive procurement programme for grid-scale battery storage and are intended to strengthen grid reliability while supporting the country’s renewable energy transition.

ERS Energy secured two of the four projects awarded under the MyBeST programme, making it the largest recipient in the tender. The company directly secured one 100 MW/400 MWh BESS project, while the second 100 MW/400 MWh project will be delivered through a consortium with infrastructure developer Gamuda. Both projects are located in Peninsular Malaysia and are scheduled to commence commercial operations in 2027.

According to ERS Energy, the projects will be developed in partnership with leading international energy storage technology providers and will provide critical grid support services, including enhancing system stability and facilitating greater integration of renewable energy resources. The projects represent an important step in the deployment of large-scale energy storage infrastructure in Malaysia and are expected to serve as reference projects for future BESS developments in the region.

The MyBeST programme is a key component of Malaysia’s energy transition strategy and is designed to accelerate renewable energy deployment while improving the resilience and flexibility of the national electricity network. Developers selected under the programme are responsible for project delivery as well as long-term operational performance, placing significant emphasis on technical expertise and asset management capabilities.

ERS Energy has delivered more than 2 GWp of solar capacity across the Asia-Pacific region and provides engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and asset management services. The company stated that the commencement of the execution phase reinforces its role in supporting Malaysia’s renewable energy and energy storage objectives.
