Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Ericsson) and Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) have announced a 10-year partnership to enable the nationwide roll out of 5G wireless cellular technology across Malaysia. The aim of the partnership is to boost digital transformation by harnessing 5G’s speed, low latency, and large-data-handling capabilities. The partners will also develop a 5G ecosystem that will promote innovation in areas like artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and automation across a variety of enterprise, industry, and multi-sector Internet of Things (IoT) use cases.
As a part of the partnership, Ericsson will deliver its energy-efficient Ericsson Radio System products and solutions, including Ericsson Spectrum Sharing, a software enabling wide-area 5G coverage. The scope also includes nationwide deployment of cloud-native 5G Core and 5G radio access network (RAN). The Ericsson Operations Engine will manage the requirements of a single wholesale network. The solution will improve DNB’s network performance by predicting and preventing faults through AI, automation, and cognitive software. Operational support systems (OSS) and business support systems (BSS) solutions are also part of Ericsson’s end-to-end offering.
DNB will provide access and services to mobile service providers and others licensed by the regulators by utilising 5G capabilities and accelerating the deployment of Malaysia’s nationwide 5G network and ecosystem.
