The Philippines Department of Transportation (DOTr), Landbank of the Philippines, and the Central Bank of the Philippines have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to commence an EMV contactless pilot testing on the country’s transit systems.

Under the pilot, EMV-compliant contactless credit, debit, and prepaid bank cards will be accepted as cashless fare media on public transport. The system will accept all of the different automated fare collection system (AFCS) providers.

Landbank has distributed about 20 million EMV-enabled cards. A total of 150 modern jeepneys in selected pilot sites in the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Metro Cebu will accept the EMV cars during the pilot period.
