The Department of Energy (DOE) has recommended about eight new renewable energy (RE) projects to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to undergo system impact studies (SIS) in the Philippines. An SIS will assess how the proposed interconnection or transmission service will affect the transmission system’s safety and reliability.

Among the endorsed projects is Energy Development Corporation’s (EDC) 60 MW Burgos 1 and 120 MW Burgos 2 Wind Power located in Ilocos Norte. The wind farm projects are also eligible to participate in DOE’s renewable portfolio standards (RPS) program. Other wind energy projects that have been endorsed include Domhain Earth Corporation’s 1400 MW Calatagan Offshore Wind Farm in Batangas and Occidental Mindoro, and the 1600 MW Claveria Offshore Wind Farm in Cagayan and Ilocos Norte.

The DOE has also endorsed two solar power projects including Metro Solar Power Solutions Incorporated’s 52.50 MWAC Pililia Solar Project in Rizal as well as Tera Renewables 3 Incorporated’s 140.9 MWAC Infanta 1 Solar Power Project in Pangasinan.

Additionally, few hydropower projects have also been recommended to undergo the SIS study including JBD Water Power Incorporated’s 49 MW Saltan D River Hydroelectric Power Project and 45 MW Saltan River Site E Hydroelectric Power Project, both located in the Kalinga Province.

The only gas-fired power plant approved for SIS is the 875.4 MW Navotas Combined Cycle Gas Turbine in Navotas, which is owned and operated by SMC Global Power Holdings Corporation.

Since the beginning of 2022, the DOE has endorsed about 60 RE projects to undergo SIS in the Philippines.
