The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has awarded a contract to Austria-based technology group ANDRITZ to modernise the pumped storage units at the Srinagarind hydropower plant in Kanchanaburi province. The contract, valued in the mid double-digit million-euro range, covers the replacement of two 180 MW pump turbine units along with motor generators, electromechanical equipment, and auxiliaries. ANDRITZ will be responsible for the supply, installation, and commissioning of the new systems. The project will be recorded in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the second quarter of 2025.

The Srinagarind plant, located on the Kwai Yai River, is one of Thailand’s largest hydropower facilities with a total capacity of 720 MW from three Francis units and two pumped storage units. The plant provides base load and peak load generation as well as grid balancing services. ANDRITZ had earlier modernised the plant’s Francis units under a previous contract.

EGAT operates over 50 power plants across Thailand with an installed capacity exceeding 16,000 MW and is expanding its presence in regional energy ventures. ANDRITZ, which has been active in Thailand for more than five decades, has contributed to almost half of the country’s hydropower capacity through installations and upgrades. The company will utilise its Indian manufacturing facilities and global engineering network to deliver the Srinagarind project.
