State-owned electricity utility Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction contract to a consortium led by China-based Yingli Energy for a 5 MW ground mount solar photovoltaic (PV) project. The plant will be located in Thap Sakae district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province in southern Thailand. The remaining consortium partners are Thailand’s Wattanasuk Engineering and a subsidiary of the Power Corporation of China. According to the contract, the consortium will supply 1 MW of polycrystalline silicon PV modules to the project during the third quarter of 2014. The project, estimated to cost $19.4 million, will be financed by EGAT.
