The Energy Development Corporation (EDC), a Philippines-based geothermal developer, has received surface exploration and drilling rights for two geothermal projects in Indonesia. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (Kementerian ESDM) awarded these preliminary survey assignments for the Koto Sani Tanjung Bingkung and Bora Pulu projects during the 10th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention and Exhibition (IIGCE), held in September 2024. EDC was one of five companies that received new geothermal concessions at this event.

This development supports EDC’s mission to promote a decarbonised future across the region. The EDC aims to expand its renewable energy portfolio as part of First Gen’s target of achieving 13,000 MW of low-carbon energy by 2030, with 9,000 MW sourced from renewables. EDC is also pursuing geothermal exploration in the Philippines, having secured two local licenses, and plans to bring four new geothermal power facilities online in 2024.
