Energy Absolute Public Limited Company (EA), an electric vehicle (EV) developer, plans to trial battery powered rail cars in Thailand. The electric trains were recently delivered by China-based CRRC Dalian Company Limited. The locomotives are being tested at the Bang Sue Grand Station, a railway hub in Bangkok.

The electric trains can travel a distance of 150-200 km and will reduce energy costs by 40 per cent as compared to diesel-powered locomotives. EA has also developed an ultra-fast charging system that can fully charge the trains in 60 minutes. A battery-swapping station will also be constructed, where batteries can be changed in under 10 minutes.

This is on line with the Government of Thailand’s plan to reduce carbon emissions from its transport sector.
