The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is reviewing the offer of procuring second-hand light rail vehicles from Spain’s Metro de Madrid for the Philippines’ 17 km Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3. As a result, DOTC has deferred the public bidding for the supply of new trains for the system. The deadline for the submission of bids for the MRT 3 capacity expansion project has been extended to May 30, 2013. Currently, a three-member team from DOTC is visiting Spain to check on the condition of the trains being offered by Metro de Madrid.
