DOTC has decided to bid out the PHP 3.7 billion capacity expansion project of the 16.9 km mass rapid transit (MRT)-3. The project will involve purchase of light rail vehicles; upgrading of traction power substations and signalling systems; installation of additional stabling tracks and a catenary system in the depot; along with improvement of depot maintenance equipment and workshops. Bidding will be divided into two phases: the purchase of an additional 48 light rail vehicles to accommodate more passengers and the installation of electromechanical works such as communications and signalling systems.
