State-run port firm Pelindo II, also known as the Indonesian Port Corporation (IPC), has commenced the development of Kalibaru port in North Jakarta. IPC is the sole developer of the project that is to be constructed in three phases. The ongoing first phase involves the construction of three container terminals with a total capacity of 4.5 million twenty foot equivalent units (TEUs) and two fuel berths; it is expected to be completed by end-2017. The firm has secured a concession right of 70 years to operate the port. The port that would have a container handling capacity of 13 million TEU is crucial to remove logistical bottlenecks in the country.
