China-based railway car manufacturer China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Corporation (CSR) has commenced construction of its RM 400 million ASEAN manufacturing and maintenance centre in Malaysia. The ASEAN rail centre would be an all-in-one facility that covers the full scope of the work of production, assembly, testing, overhaul, and refurbishment. After completion of the first phase of the project, which is expected by mid-2014, the centre will be able to produce 100 carriages and overhaul around 150 carriages annually. CSR ZELC has won the bid to supply 20 sets of light rail vehicles for Malaysia’s Ampang line extension project. The cars will be among the first to be manufactured at the new plant.
