The Port of Singapore has reported container throughput of 2.83 million TEUs during March 2014, an increase of 7.2 per cent over the March 2013 figure. During January–March 2014, Singapore recorded a total throughput of 7.93 million TEUs, higher than that in the corresponding period of 2013 by 3.9 per cent. The port lost the title of the busiest container port to Shanghai (China) in 2010. Currently, Singapore is the world’s second busiest container port, closely followed by Shenzen.
