The Government of Vietnam has announced plans that the construction works to commence for the Ho Chi Minh City–Can Tho high-speed railway in 2027, with an extension to Ca Mau targeted for 2028.

The government emphasised that experience gained from earlier projects—including road connections to China and the North-South high-speed railway (HSR)—will inform the HCMC–Can Tho line. Beyond rail, Phu Quoc, Ca Mau, and Rach Gia airports are planned for expansion. Three seaports—Tran De, Cai Cui, and Hon Khoai—are also set for development. On roads, the government aims to complete up to 1,300 km of highways in the Mekong Delta by the end of the current term.
