The Government of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) has commenced construction of Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh–Tham Luong) in Vietnam. The project is invested in by the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) and is fully funded by the city’s budget.
Metro Line 2 is approximately 11.27 km long, comprising about 9.3 km of underground alignment and around 2 km of elevated section. The line will include 10 underground stations, one elevated station (Tan Binh), and one depot, and will connect with Ben Thanh Station on Metro Line 1. Total investment is estimated at over VND55 trillion.
After 16 years of planning delays, the start of construction marks a major step in expanding the city’s urban rail network. Once completed, Line 2 is expected to ease congestion along key corridors such as Cach Mang Thang Tam and Truong Chinh streets and support greener, more efficient urban mobility.
