Construction work has begun on the $471 million Nam Tha 1 hydropower dam in Bokeo province, and the dam is likely to be commissioned by 2017. The dam will be equipped with an installed capacity of 168 MW and an annual power output of 759 GWh. With a concession period of 28 years, the dam will be operated by China Southern Grid International and Electricite Du Lao.
