Petronas has started works on its third floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel in Sabah, Malaysia. Upon completion, the nearshore FLNG facility will dock at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) and is expected to draw new investments. The vessel aims to produce 2 million tonnes of LNG annually, with commercial operations set to start by the end of 2027.
In 2022, Samsung Heavy Industries and JGC secured a USD2 billion engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning contract for Petronas’ nearshore FLNG project, known as ZLNG. The ZLNG project features an onshore substation, a new jetty head and trestle at Petronas’ Chemicals fertilizer facility at SOGIP, a two-km subsea pipeline, 24-inch and six-inch diameter onshore pipelines, a gas metering station and a FLNG vessel.
