Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (SMSB) has awarded Ibraco Bhd, China Railway Group Limited (CREC) and Nanyang Tunnel Engineering Sdn Bhd (NYTE) construction contracts worth RM568.81 million for works under Blue Line Package 1 for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project in Malaysia. The three companies will form a joint venture (JV) to implement and undertake works under the contract.

The contract will cover the section from Rembus to Stutong. 

The KUTS project will introduce the zero-emission mode of transportation, comprising Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) vehicles and supported by the hydrogen-powered feeder bus network. Phase 1 of the KUTS project entails a 70km ART route comprising three lines, namely the Blue, Red and Green Lines, and 31 stations. Passenger service will commence in stages starting in Q4 of 2025, with complete operations expected by the end of 2027.
