The Government of Ho Chi Minh City has officially launched the first public electric bus route in the Con Dao Special Zone, Vietnam. The service is operated under the city’s Public Transport Management Center and forms part of broader efforts to expand low-emission mobility solutions.
Electric bus Route No. 173 connects Con Dao Airport with Con Dao Market, two of the island’s highest-demand travel points. The route spans 17.1 km and serves 39 passenger pick-up and drop-off points, with an average end-to-end journey time of around 30 minutes. Buses operate daily from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., providing a reliable transport option for residents and visitors.
The electric buses feature a design inspired by Con Dao’s natural environment, with colours and symbols representing the sea, forests, sunlight, and local biodiversity. In the next phase, authorities plan to introduce five additional routes, numbered 174 to 178, which are expected to expand public transport coverage to more than 90 percent of key locations across the island.
The launch of Route 173 supports Ho Chi Minh City’s green energy transition agenda and net-zero emissions goals. By deploying zero-emission electric buses, the initiative aims to reduce environmental impact, protect biodiversity, and promote sustainable development in the Con Dao Special Zone.
