The Government of Singapore is advancing the deployment of autonomous public transport as ComfortDelGro has expanded public trials of its autonomous shuttle service in Punggol. From June 22, members of the public can book complimentary rides through the company’s Zig mobile application or the government-backed BookingSG platform. The initiative forms part of Singapore’s broader strategy to commercialise autonomous mobility solutions and enhance urban transport services.
The autonomous shuttles currently operate on a 25-minute route connecting Punggol Coast Mall, One Punggol, Sam Kee LRT Station and Northshore Drive, with services running daily between 9:30 am and 5:30 pm. A longer 50-minute route covering Oasis Terraces, Punggol Plaza and nearby residential estates is scheduled to begin operations in July. ComfortDelGro currently operates a fleet of five autonomous vehicles developed in partnership with Pony.ai, following an invite-only trial launched in April that has already served more than 1,500 passengers.
The expansion represents Singapore’s latest step towards the commercial deployment of autonomous transport services. ComfortDelGro aims to make autonomous vehicles account for 10 per cent of its global point-to-point transport fleet by 2030, building on its commercial robotaxi operations in Guangzhou. The initiative runs alongside separate autonomous vehicle trials by Grab and WeRide in Punggol, with the Land Transport Authority continuing to evaluate operational frameworks, fare structures and regulations ahead of wider commercial deployment.
