The China Construction Second Engineering Bureau, the sole subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering, has won a $1.2 billion contract for the Makati city subway project. The construction on the project will start once travel restrictions are lifted. The subway will have an initial length of 8 km and eight stations, but it can be expanded later. It aims to ease traffic bottlenecks within the city and will complement the mass transit projects of the national government as it will interconnect with the metro railway transit, the proposed Metro Manila mega subway and Pasig river ferry. The project, which is a JV with the Makati city local government, will be partly financed by Chinese investors.
