China Railway Electrification Bureau International Engineering Company Limited has achieved a milestone in its involvement in Singapore’s Sengkang-Punggol Depot Power Supply Reconstruction Project (810H Project). The project’s new 22 kV high-voltage switchgear and distribution transformers were successfully energised, marking the first successful power supply activation by a Chinese company in Singapore’s rail transit sector. This event reflects growing China-Singapore infrastructure cooperation and highlights the international competitiveness of Chinese railway electrification technologies.
The Sengkang-Punggol Light Rail, a key component of Singapore’s urban transport system, connects 28 stations and serves a heavy daily ridership. The depot expansion incorporates an innovative “air stacking” design above the existing Northeast Line depot and includes two new traction substations at Rumbia (SE2) and Damai (PE7) stations. The upgrade enhances traction power capacity to support 36 double-unit trains and aims to provide a safer and more efficient passenger experience. The project team adopted modular construction, digital debugging, and precise installation techniques to overcome complex technical challenges and meet safety standards.
