Chevron Pacific Indonesia plans to spend $150 million on its enhanced oil recovery project at the Minas block in central Sumatra. The Minas oilfield has estimated reserves of 8 billion barrels of oil; thus far, only 4.5 billion barrels have been extracted. Chevron will use a polymer surfactant technology as a trial; should the technology increase the field’s recovery factor, the company will apply it on a full scale. Chevron is expected to increase oil production at Minas by around 1,500 barrels per day during the pilot project.
