Plans have been announced to install that electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the Belait and Temburong districts, as a priority for the upcoming pilot project, under the Green Protocol launched by the Ministry of Development, under the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat. The EV pilot project is scheduled to be launched on March 25, 2021.

The two-year EV pilot project was announced as one out of 10 main strategies under the Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy (BNCCP) in addressing climate change issues. An assessment and study will be carried out to determine its effectiveness after two years of its implementation. One of the key actions in the pilot project is to identify a strategic location for EV charging stations based on the public’s needs. The government is collaborating with Brunei Shell Marketing Co Sdn Bhd (BSM) for the installations of the EV charging stations at a number of locations in the country.

The Green Protocol is one of the government’s initiatives to promote a sustainable lifestyle to reduce carbon emissions in the country.
