Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has confirmed that the new MRT station at Changi Airport Terminal 5 (T5) will serve as an interchange between the Thomson–East Coast Line (TEL) and Cross Island Line (CRL). The station, which will be the eastern terminus of the CRL, is part of the TEL extension from Sungei Bedok. It will directly link T5 to areas such as Gardens by the Bay, Maxwell, and Orchard via TEL, and to Ang Mo Kio, Hougang, Punggol, and Clementi via CRL. Travel time from Changi Airport to Ang Mo Kio will be reduced from 60 to about 45 minutes.
Terminal 5 is under construction and set for completion in the mid-2030s, with the capacity to serve an additional 50 million passengers annually. It will include a ground transportation centre integrating train, bus, taxi, and other services. As part of broader integration plans, the Tanah Merah, Expo, and existing Changi Airport MRT stations on the East–West Line (EWL) will be converted into TEL stations. Systems integration work across these stations is ongoing, with modifications at Tanah Merah expected to finish by the end of 2025. LTA will announce train service adjustments required during these works at a later date.
