Changi Airport witnessed passenger traffic of 4.68 million during August 2013, a 9.4 per cent increase over the corresponding month in 2012. Cargo volume rose by just 0.5 per cent year on year to reach 151,000 tonnes in August 2013. A total of 29,600 aircraft were handled at Changi Airport. According to the airport authority, the growth in air travel demand can be attributed to an extra long weekend on account of the Hari Raya Puasa and National Day public holidays in Singapore. Further, traffic between Singapore, China, and Japan registered double-digit growth during the month. Other destinations that have registered healthy growth include Indonesia and Malaysia.
