The government of Cebu province has announced plans to deploy a cashless fare collection system on buses. The trial of this system is scheduled to begin in mid-March 2021 and will be fully operational in April 2021. Multiple bus operators have signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) to deploy the new fare collection system. Philippines-based Topline Hi-Tech and Synergy Corporation are supplying the fare system under an agreement signed in November 2020. Through this new fare collection system, passengers will be able to pay for fare using the Suroy-Suroy Card, a contactless smartcard. In addition, Topline Hi-Tech has announced plans to launch an electronic wallet for the purchase of tickets through an electronic ticket-issuance device.
