Passenger operations have started at the new Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport in Cambodia. The USD1.1 billion new facility will be replacing the old Siem Reap International Airport (REP). The project was financed by Angkor International Airport Company Limited, a subsidiary of China-based Yunnan Investment Holdings, and is a part of the Government of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The airport has a single 3,600 m-long runway and will be able to handle 7 million passengers per year, 2 million more than the old airport in Siem Riep. By 2040, capacity will be expanded to accommodate 12 million passengers annually.
