Cambodia has begun working on building a new container seaport in Preah Sihanouk with financial assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The 14.5 metre deep port will service about 93 per cent of all large vessels travelling in the Asia-Pacific region. According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the project is currently under way. Expected to cost around $203 million, the new port will facilitate import and export activities in the region and reduce costs.
