The Cambodian goverment has announced plans to develop an international airport in Kampong Chhnang province. The airport will be constructed on an area of 1,463 hectares the Rolea Pa-ear district of the province; the government has already requisitioned 768 hectares from private land owners. It will replace Phnom PenhInternational Airport: according to the 2012–2020 Tourism Development Strategic Plan, the current airport will not be able to support the increasing inflow of tourists in the future.
