The Government of Cambodia has launched a new transshipment route for agricultural exports to China through Lao PDR, marking a new logistics corridor aimed at improving market access for Cambodian agricultural products. The route was inaugurated on June 22 in Vientiane during a ceremony attended by Cambodia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Dith Tina, his Lao counterpart, and private sector representatives. The initiative follows bilateral coordination between Cambodian and Lao authorities to establish transport procedures for six Cambodian agricultural products destined for the Chinese market.
The new corridor is designed to shorten transport times and facilitate cross-border movement of agricultural exports. As part of the launch, four containers of fresh durian were dispatched as the first shipment to China via Lao PDR. The route will initially support exports of six approved agricultural products, providing an additional overland logistics option for Cambodian exporters.
The initiative forms part of Cambodia’s broader efforts to diversify export routes and strengthen agricultural trade with China. Cambodia currently exports a range of agricultural products to the Chinese market, including bananas, mangoes, rice, Pailin longan, cassava starch and durian. The new transshipment corridor is expected to improve supply chain efficiency, expand export opportunities, and support the growth of Cambodia’s agricultural sector.
