The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has asked the Ministry of Transportation to allow foreign players to undertake the management and operation of the local airports. CAAV has also suggested that Vietnam’s airports should be divided into two separate classes. The first class of airports could include terminals that are located at significant gateways of the country, while those in the second class could include the strategically less important ones. The government may allow private players to operate the latter. Meanwhile, as part of Vietnam’s master plan for the aviation sector for 2012–20, the country will need 221 trillion dong to repair and upgrade 26 terminals.
