China-based BYD has announced plans to introduce its ultra-fast Flash Charging technology in Vietnam, which could significantly accelerate the country’s EV charging infrastructure development. The system is capable of charging a vehicle battery from 10 per cent to 97 per cent in approximately nine minutes under suitable conditions.
Although the company has not yet issued an official announcement, the statement has generated significant interest among EV users and industry observers in Vietnam. If implemented, the initiative could mark a major step in improving charging convenience and supporting wider electric vehicle adoption in the country.
BYD’s Flash Charging system uses high-voltage architecture combined with advanced battery technology to drastically reduce charging times, bringing the EV charging experience closer to the refuelling time of conventional gasoline vehicles. The company has already deployed similar charging stations in several international markets.
Vietnam’s EV charging infrastructure is currently dominated by domestic automaker VinFast, which has built an extensive nationwide charging network. In contrast, most international EV manufacturers have initially focused on vehicle sales and brand expansion before investing heavily in charging infrastructure.
BYD currently offers around 10 vehicle models in Vietnam, including fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, and plans to introduce four additional models in the market in 2026.
