Bumi Armada Berhad has set up a new team to venture into floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) projects. The company aims to capitalise on the growing demand for gas from the energy sector. The increasing environmental pressure on coal and nuclear energy, coupled with the sheer abundance of gas as a natural resource, has made LNG projects a highly lucrative business. The company already has expertise in the floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO), as well as the offshore support vessel (OSV) businesses. It is currently the fifth largest FPSO owner and operator in the world, with four FPSO units in operation and one in the process of conversion. The company also has more than 40 OSVs in its fleet, making it the largest owner and operator of OSVs in Malaysia and among the top three in Southeast Asia.
