The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has recognised the local government of Bislig City for advancing digital payments through the Paleng-QR Ph programme. The initiative, implemented in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), promotes the use of QR codes for transactions in public markets and the local transport sector.
Under the programme, the local government provides incentives to encourage adoption. Participating businesses receive a 2 per cent business tax discount, while market tenants are granted a 1 per cent tax discount and a 1 per cent reduction in rental fees. The city has also partnered with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to provide public Wi-Fi in market areas to support digital transactions. In the transport sector, the Traffic Management Group monitors compliance by ensuring QR codes are displayed and accessible to passengers.
