The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) will issue a request for tenders for the construction of four Red Line electric train route extensions worth THB67.5 billion. The agency expects the construction of the line to be completed by 2025.

Of the total cost of the extension project, the Rangsit-Thammasat extension will costs THB6.57 billion, the Taling Chan-Siriraj section is expected to cost THB6.64 billion, the Taling Chan-Salaya section will costs THB10.2 billion and THB44.1 billion will be required for the project connecting Bang Sue and Hua Lamphong. To pay for the extensions, the SRT will either take out loans or generate funds through the Thailand Future Fund, and the case is currently being assessed by the Public Debt Management Office.

The Red Line is part of the SRT’s strategy to connect northern and western Bangkok via Bang Sue Grand Station with a wide network of urban and suburban trains.
