Sarawak Energy’s corporate social responsibility project supplying 31 doors at Rumah Bada, Nanga Talong, Batang Ai with 24-hour renewable solar power in 2019 won the Sustainability and CSR Malaysia Award in December 2020. Sarawak Energy won the award under the Utilities and Energy category.
Prior to the completion of the solar project, electricity supply for the community in the remote regions of Sarawak was provided through individually owned diesel generators with high operating costs. Due to logistical challenges, many households were not able to maintain regular electricity supply. Sarawak Energy is currently working with the Ministry of Utilities, Sarawak, and aiming for full electrification of the region by 2025.
