The Provincial Government of Bataan has announced plans to explore the potential deployment of electric hydrofoiling ferries following discussions with Swedish marine technology company Candela. The representatives to examine how the company’s electric vessel technology could support future maritime transportation along the province’s coastline.

The discussions focused on Candela’s hydrofoiling electric ferries, which use underwater wings to lift vessels above the water surface while in motion. By reducing water resistance, the technology enables higher operating speeds, lower energy consumption, reduced emissions and a smoother passenger experience compared to conventional ferries.

For Bataan, the proposed technology could enhance coastal and inter-island connectivity while supporting sustainable transportation objectives. Officials noted that the vessels may help improve mobility, strengthen tourism links and contribute to economic development along the province’s coastal communities.

Candela has gained international attention for its electric hydrofoiling ferry solutions, which are designed to provide environmentally friendly maritime transport alternatives. The discussions remain at an exploratory stage, but the initiative reflects growing interest in adopting innovative clean transportation technologies within the Philippines.
